For Windows based installations, before installing Image Web Server you will want to check that you have Internet Information Services installed.
Internet Information Services is the free web server that is packaged with the windows operating systems. It is available for Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business and above, Windows Server 2003 and 2008.
If you are unsure, or you know you need to install IIS:
- Open up your control panel
- View add / remove programs (or Programs and software on Vista)
- Select “Windows Components”
- Ensure that IIS is “checked”. If it isn’t, check the box next to it, and proceed.
Sometimes, if you haven’t previously installed IIS, it will be installed from a local copy of your operating system. Other times, you may be required to insert your operating system installation disc.
For Windows 2008 Server, you need to add the "application server" role to your computer.
After working through this installation, you can check that IIS is working properly by visiting
http://localhost/ (localhost is a "nickname" defined for your machine).
If a website doesn't appear, you will probably need to restart your computer in order for the changes to take effect.
